Für mich der beste Kontinent auf dieser Erde, insbesondere Südostasien. Die Leute sind meistens freundlich, was ich auf die asiatische Mentalität und Religion zurückführe, das Wetter ist immer warm und die Tauchplätze sind die besten auf dieser Erde. Leider habe ich noch keine Möglichkeit gefunden, dort einmal ein paar Jahre zu verbleiben, inzwischen sind mehrere Anläufe gescheitert.

For me the best continent on this world, especially south east Asia. The people are mostly friendly, what I attribute to the Asian mentality and the religion, the weather is all times warm and the dive spots are the best in this world. Unfortunately I have not yet found a way to live there for a couple of years. More then one attempt was unsuccessful up to now.

Das Land mit der grössten Bevölkerung auf dieser Erde ist als für Individualreisende schwierig zu bereisen. An vielen Plätzen die ich besucht habe wird kein Wort englisch gesprochen. Geschäftlich ist es aufgrund irgendwelcher Partner kein Problem, aber privat mühsam. Im ganzen Land wird man sehr freundlich aufgenommen. Als Tauchspot eigentlich nicht bekannt, habe ich es doch geschafft dort mehrmals Tauchen zu gehen. Inzwischen Co-operation zwischen localem Verband und PADI, verspricht geordnete Sitten.

The country with the biggest population on this earth is for individual travelers difficult to visit. On many places which I have visited no word in English is spoken. Commercial this is not a problem due any business partners, but private tiresome. In the whole country I experienced all times a very friendly welcome. As a dive spot not known, I was already more then once diving there. As I learned in between PADI has finished a co-operation agreement with the local dive association what promises reglemented rules.

Die Hauptstadt von China liegt weit im Norden und hat heisse Sommer aber auch kalte Winter. Das Klima ist stark kontinental geprägt. Hier sind alle Ministerien und politischen Entscheidungsträger des Landes versammelt. Auf mich wirkte die Stadt etwas grau, ausser dem Platz des himmlischen Friedens kann ich mich nicht an weitere Highlights erinnern. Die grösste Sehenswürdigkeit der Umgebung, die chinesische Mauer, habe ich zu oft auf das nächste Mal verschoben und so wartet Sie immer noch auf einen Besuch von mir.

The capitol of China is located in the far northern and has hot summers and also cold winters. The climate is strongly continental stamped. In this city are all ministries and political decider of the country located. My impression about the city is a bit grey, but this could also be my failure due luck of time. Except the place of the heavenly peace I can't remember any further highlights. The biggest attraction in the area, the Chinese wall I have postponed from one trip to the next and so it still wait for a visit of me.

Die Stadt in China die als erstes den westlichen Standard erreichen wird. Bei meinen Besuchen war die ganze Stadt eine einzige riesige Baustelle. Bemerkenswerterweise habe ich aber viele getroffen, die englisch sprachen. Bereits an der imponierenden Skyline sieht man den Unterschied zu anderen Städten. Der Fernsehturm sowie die in Rekordzeit erbaute erste Magnetschwebebahn dieser Erde zeigen die hohe Innovationsfreudigkeit der Chinesen, die noch weitere Überraschungen bieten werden.

Shanghai is the city in China which will reach at first the western standard. On my visits the city was a big construction site. Remarkably I met a lot of Chinese which spoke English, in opposite to the rest of country. Already on the very impressive skyline everybody can see the difference to the other cities. The Television tower and the magnetic train to the airport which was build up in record time schedule shows the high innovation performance of the Chinese population, which will surprise us in the future more and more.

Die vielen wahrscheinlich unbekannte Stadt ist grösser als Berlin und liegt in Yunnan im Süden von China in einer Hochebene am Rande des Himalaja. Durch die gehobene Lage ist das Klima deutlich kühler als am Meer. Die Gegend ist bekannt durch den berühmten steinernen Wald. Normalerweise verirrt sich kein Westler in diese Ecke und so ist auch englisch absolute Mangelware. Bei einem Empfang inklusive Bürgermeister konnte ich mich von der Trinkfreudigkeit der Chinesen überzeugen.

This city which most people will not know is bigger then Berlin and is located in southern China, province Yunnan, on a high plateau on the border of the Himalaya. Due the high location the clime is remarkably cooler then on the sea level. This area has as attraction the famous stone forest. Usually no western guy will come into this corner and so English is not very familiar for the most. On a dinner including the major of the town I could experience the drinking quality of the Chinese, after they start to drink within one hour everything was over.

Qujing ist in Yunnan eine Stadt mit Tabakindustrie. Hier kann man als Westler wirklich keinen Fuss vor die Tür setzen. Ich habe hier meine ersten chinesischen Kundenkontakte geschlossen. Fast ein Jahr habe ich für eine Zigarettenfabrik eine Planung durchgeführt bis mir erklärt wurde das man erstmal die Notwendigkeit der Investition prüfen muss. Eine kulinarische Spezialität der Gegend sind gebratene Maden und Grillen, sehr zum Entsetzen meiner Bekannten als ich mal einige mitbrachte. Schmeckten aber nicht schlecht.

Quijing is in the province Yunnan a city with a tobacco factory. In this city a western can not walk outside the hotel without accompany. I have made here my first experience with Chinese customers. Nearby a year I made a detail design for a Chinese cigarette factory up to the new director told me that he has to check if he need such an investment. A culinary specialty of the area are roasted larvae and grasshoppers, to the frighten of my friends when I brought some of them from my trip home. But the taste was not bad.

Die grosse Insel südlich von Hong Kong bietet Strände und auch Tauchen ist möglich. Das Reisen war durch die sprachliche Barriere eingeschränkt und die Preise mangels Verständnis astronomisch. Die Tauchgewohnheiten sind einmalig: nimm dir einen Tank und gehe. Alle Tauchgänge waren solo, wie man unschwer an der Tauchzeit erkennen kann. Die UW Landschaft ähnelt Tropen, viele Weichkorallen und Riffische bei etwa 27grd. Ist für einen Tauchurlaub noch nicht geeignet, aber als Mitnahme auf der Durchreise durchaus gut.

The big island south of Hong Kong offers beaches and diving is also possible. The travel was due the language difficulties limited and the prices due lack of communication astronomical high. The dive rules are very unique: take a tank and good luck. All my dives was solo dives as could be easily seen on my above dive time. The underwater landscape is similar like in the tropical countries , many soft corals and reef fishes at about 27 dgrs temperature. This island is not yet good enough for a dive trip, but as a stop over already not bad.

Hong Kong ist eine grossartige Stadt die alles bietet und nicht so restriktiv ist wie Singapore. Durch die Hub Funktion für China war ich immer nur auf der Durchreise da, die natürlich auf das Weekend gelegt wurde. Dabei kam ich natürlich auch zum Tauchen, einfach nur im Wasser gewesen. Die Temperatur war mit 26 grad ganz ok, die Sicht bescheiden und es gibt wenig Fische. Aber immer noch besser als in der City zu hocken. Den weissen Hai, den es hier gelegentlich geben soll, habe ich nicht gesehen, ist bei den Sichtweiten aber kein Wunder.

Hong Kong is a great city which offers everything and not so restrictive like Singapore. Through the hub function for China I stayed there just for transit and this was mostly on the weekends. So I could also join diving there, which was just like to be in the water. The temperature is quite ok with about 26 dgrs, the visibility was poor and not so much fishes. But still better as to hang around in the city. The great white shark who is also swimming in this waters I have not seen, but this is not a wonder in regards to the poor visibility.

Macao war eine Portugiesische Kolonie und wurde 1999 zurück an China gegeben. Seitdem hat Sie einen Sonderstatus unter chinesischer Hoheit. Dieser Stadtstaat ist auch sehr klein. Man könnte meinen irgendwo in Europa zu sein, wenn da nicht die vielen Chinesen und Karaokebars wären. Macao hat den Ruf ein Spielerparadies zu sein und ein grosser Teil der Wirtschaft baut wohl auf diesem auf. Anreise ist ausser mit dem Flugzeug auch von Hong Kong per Boot oder über das verbundene chinesische Festland möglich.

Macao was a Portuguese colony and was given back to China in 1999. Since this time it has a status as a Special Autonomy Region under Chinese government. This city country is very small. It looks like a location somewhere in Europe when you would not see the many Chinese and the karaoke bars. Macao has the call to be a paradise for gambler and a big part of the local economy is build on it. The city is reachable via plane and also via boat from Hong Kong and also via roads from the Chinese mainland.

Indonesien erstreckt sich über mehrere Zeitzonen und ist wahrscheinlich das Land mit grössten Tauchpotential auf dieser Erde. Bereits ein Blick auf die Landkarte zeigt die unzähligen Inseln, an denen überall getaucht werden kann. Ich habe bisher erst wenige besucht, diese auch alle als exzellent empfunden. Irian Jaya, Ambon, Togian Inseln und Sangalakki stehen als nächstes auf dem Plan. Eines der grössten Problems bei der Reiseorganisation sind die lokalen Flüge, da einfach keine aktuellen Flugpläne verfügbar sind.

Indonesia stretches about several time zones and is possibly the country with the biggest diving potential in this world. Already a view on the map shows the uncountable islands and everywhere is diving possible. I have up to now visited only a few, but all of them I found excellent. Irian Jaya, Ambon, Togian Islands and Sangalakki are my next favorites. The biggest problem to manage this trips are the local flights, due there are no actual schedules on the net available and the airlines homepages are mostly not available.

Die Hauptstadt hat sich inzwischen auch zu einem Moloch entwickelt, in der sich Arm und Reich gegenüber stehen. In den neuen Shoppingcentern kann man wunderbar einkaufen, hier sei der Block M hervorgehoben. Achtung vor betrügerischen Taxifahrern, insbesondere am nationalen Flughafen. Für eine Übernachtung vor Weiterflug kann ich das Quality Bandara im Terminal 2E empfehlen, man spart sich das Taxi und morgens Stress. Ein guter Tipp ist immer einige Papiertaschentücher dabeizuhaben, wenn es soweit ist weis man dann warum.

The capitol of Indonesia is in between developed to a moloch, where rich and poor come very close together. In the new centers you can fantastic shop around, maybe now the best place for shopping in Asia. My favorite is here Block M. Take care for the criminal taxi driver, especially departing the domestic airport. For a stop over before a morning flight I recommend the Quality Bandara in Terminal 2E, you save the taxi ride and stress in the morning. My personal tip is to have always tissues with you, when it happens you know why.

Ist das Tauchgebiet von Singapore, da die im Stadtgebiet vorhandenen Tauchgebiete noch schlimmer sein sollen. In weniger als eine Stunde mit der Ferry zu erreichen tummeln sich da die Singapore Expats inklusive der Singapurianer um mal im Wasser gewesen zu sein. Die Sicht ist bescheiden, es sind einige Korallen und tropische Rifffische zu sehen und dafür ist das Wasser schön warm. Ein sehr schöner Weekend Ausflug. Zu empfehlen ist, auf Batam am Weekend gleich zu übernachten, man braucht dann nicht so früh aufstehen.

Batam is the dive spot of Singapore, due the dive spots in the city area should be much worse as I have heard about. In less then one hour with the ferry boat to reach you can find here the expats from Singapore including the Singaporean just to be once in the water. The visibility is poor, there are some tropical reef fish and corals to see, but the water is comfortable warm. A very nice weekend excursion, but don't expect more. I recommend to stay on Batam over night on the weekends, then you don't need to wake up so early.

Richtig gemütlich auf Bali ist es im Norden und Nordwest. Der ganze Rummel ist weg und man kann richtig relaxen. Einzelne Resorts sind an dem langen Strand verteilt, ohne das man ein zweites sieht. Der Sand am Strand ist vulkanisch und schwarz. An der Nordküste überwiegen unter Wasser flache Hänge mit Korallen. Zu sehen gibt es alle tropischen Fische und insbesondere viele Steinfische. Die Insel Menjangan ist mit seinen Steilwänden und Strömungen klasse, und das Wrack der USS Liberty sollte sich kein Taucher entgehen lassen.

Really nice it gets in the north and northwest. The trouble from the busy southeast corner is gone and one can really relax. Single resorts are distributed on the long beach, without any visible connection. The sand on the beach is vulcano and black. On the northcoast are mostly shallow slopes with many colourful corals under water. There are all tropical fishes available especially Stone Fish. On the island Menjangan is excellent wall and drift diving, and also the wrack of the USS Liberty nobody should miss in his logbook.

Der touristische Spot im Land. Bali bietet unwahrscheinlich viel interessante und abwechslungsreiche Kultur, am besten auf eigene Faust mit einem eigenen Fahrer erkunden. Sicher schon alleine deswegen eine Reise wert und das Tauchen ist auch nicht schlecht. Man sollte aber einen grossen Bogen um Kuta machen und Nusa Dua ist auch nur etwas für Fans der 5 Sterne Hotels. Wer dagegen scharf auf Nachtleben ist der ist in Kuta bestens aufgehoben, Discos haben inzwischen die ganze Nacht auf. Der Tourismus zieht von Kuta aus in Richtung Westen.

The most touristy spot in the country. Bali offers unbelievable interesting and diversified culture, at the best explore it by your own with a private driver. Alone the culture is worth for the trip, and the diving is also acceptable. You should make a big bow around Kuta and Nusa Dua is also only something for the friends of the 5 stars resorts. Who is hot on nightlife and loud music will find in Kuta the best location for it. Discos are now open all the night through. The tourism moves from Kuta in the eastern direction.

Lombok liegt östlich von Bali und ist per Fähre oder mit einem kurzen Flug von Denpasar erreichbar. Auf Lombok entwickelt sich seit ein paar Jahren langsam der Tourismus. Zum Tauchen besser geeignet sind die 3 kleinen vorgelagerten Gili Inseln mit einer handvoll Hotels und Restaurants mit einem Korallenstrand. Die Insel Gili Trawangan ist da noch die lebhafteste. Das Tauchen ist sehr gut mit guten Sichtweiten, Schildkröten, Riffhaien und Zwergseepferdchen. Aufgrund der Nähe der Tauchplätze kommt man nach jedem Tauchgang zurück.

Lombok is located east of Bali and reachable with a ferry boat or a short flight from Denpasar. On Lombok since a couple of years the tourism slowly grows. For divers are the 3 small Gili islands with a handful hotels and restaurants including a coral beach are the best choice. Gili Trawangan is the most lively of them. The diving is great with good visibility, turtles, reef sharks, and pigmy seahorses. Because of the proximity of the dive spots after each dive the boat returns to the beach. A relaxed island, excellent for beach holidays.

Fantastisches Tauchen in einer Umgebung, die noch nicht für Tourismus reif ist. Einen Strand gibt es nicht und das Dorf auf Flores gelegen ist sehr einheimisch geprägt. Die besseren Ressorts sind 2-3 km ausserhalb und einsam gelegen. Eco Lodge ist einziges Ressort mit Pool, aber schlechter Service für den Preis. Um Komodo wird überwiegend auf Liveaboards von Bali getaucht, jedoch bieten 3 Tauchshops in Labuan Bajo auf Flores Tagestrips an. Die Anfahrt zu Tauchplätzen ist mit etwa 2 Stunden relativ lang, dafür gibt es Mantas ohne Ende.

Fantastic diving in an environment, which is not yet prepared for tourism. There is no beach and the small village placed on Flores is very native shaped. The better resorts are about 2-3 km outside and lonely located. Eco Lodge is only resort with pool, however for the offered price a bad service. The diving around Komodo is predominantly done on live boards from Bali, however in Labuan Bajo on Flores located also 3 operator offers daytrips. The approach to the dive spots is relatively long with approximately 2 hours, but there are Mantas without end.

Die Lembeh Strasse am nordöstlichen Zipfel von Sulawesi ist ein sehr bekanntes Muck Tauchgebiet. Das heisst schlechte Sicht und keine Korallen. Dafür ist es aber der genialste Platz für seltene Viecher die man sonst nirgends zu sehen bekommt. Und das in einer Häufung die unglaublich ist. Auf einem Tauchgang findet man mehr Raritäten als man sonst in einen Tauchurlaub sieht, so etwa 10 verschiedene Anglerfische, 5 verschiedene Seepferdchen und viele andere. Das Resort der NAD ist familiär geführt und kann empfohlen werden.

The Lembeh Street on the north east tip of Sulawesi is a very famous muck diving spot. This means bad visibility and no corals. Instead this is the most excellent dive location for very rare stuff which usually nowhere else could be seen. And this in quantities which is unbelievable. On one dive you will find more rare animals as you will see else in a whole dive holiday, so about 10 different frog fishes, 5 different sea horses and many other stuff more. The resort of NAD is very familiar and is strongly recommended by me.

DAS Makro Paradise für mich. Steilwände und Muckdiving vom Feinsten, und das bei Sichtweiten von bis zu 40m. Welcher andere Muckplatz kann damit dienen? Geister Pfeifenfisch, mini Seepferdchen, Schaukelfisch und alles was so selten ist in den Logbüchern kann hier gefunden werden. Die Viecher sind so klein das man ein extra Makro und ein Vergrösserungsglas mitnehmen sollte. Ich empfehle ein Ressort auf Bunaken zu wählen, damit erspart man sich die tägliche Anreise. Achtung, teilweise ist auf Bunaken kein Strand vorhanden.

This is the macro paradise for me. Walls and muck diving as the best and this at visibilities up to 40m. Which other muck diving spot can offer this? Ghost pipefish, mini sea horses, leaf fish and everything what is rare in the logbooks can be found here. The animals are so small that you should take a extra macro and a magnifying glass with you to gather nice pictures. I recommend a resort on Bunaken island, then you don't need to take the daily trip to the national park. Take care, on Bunaken partly no sandy beach available.

Das beste Urlaubsressort auf dieser Erde mit einem super Strand. Hier kann man relaxen, essen, schlafen und natürlich viel und lang tauchen. Die Hütten sind im lokalen Still und einfach. Das gute Hausriff ist allein schon die Reise Wert, da kann man jeden Tag rein ohne das es langweilig wird. Die Tauchplätze in der Umgebung sind in erster Linie auf kleinen Lebewesen ausgerichtet. Das ganze Raritätenkabinett der Unterwasserwelt ist da versammelt, was so alles gesehen wird sieht man auf der Liste unter pics 2003.

The best holiday resort on this earth with a superb sandy beach. Here you can relax, eat, sleep and of course perform a lot of very long dives. The cottages are in local style simple. I made 3 hours with a 12l tank. The fantastic house reef alone is the trip worth, you can jump every day inside without getting bored. The surrounding dive spots are mainly for the small animals, means macro is a must. You can find here the whole rarity cabinet of this world. Ein sehr widersprüchliches Land. Im Westen teilweise supermodern, und im Osten klopfen sie noch die Bananen von den Bäumen. Für den individuell Reisenden klasse, Mietwagen und Unterkunft im Bereich der Mittelklasse ausreichend vorhanden. Das Festland ist gut zum Reisen. An der Westküste gibt es viele Chinesen, ist aber durch schlechte Sicht weniger gut zum Tauchen. Die Ostküste ist stark muslemisch geprägt und es gibt da einige ganz gute Inseln. Auf Borneo gibt es dann die Weltklasse Tauchplätze von Sipadan bis Layang Layang.

A very controversial country. In the western part partly hyper modern, and in the eastern part they still knocking down the bananas from the palms. For the individual traveler excellent, rental cars and accommodation in the middle range enough available. The main land is great for traveling. On the west side are a lot of Chinese represented, but due of bad visibility not good for diving. The east coats is strongly Muslim controlled and there are some nice islands to visit. On Borneo there are the world class dive spots from Sipadan to Layang Layang.

Nach meiner Meinung die idealste Grosstadt in Asien. Keine so starken Kontraste wie Bangkok, Manila oder Jakarta, nicht so sauber wie Singapore, nicht so teuer wie Hongkong oder Shanghai und man spricht englisch im Gegensatz zu Taipei oder Peking. Der Verkehr kann schon schrecklich sein und zum Fahren braucht man eine Eingewöhnungszeit. Dafür sitzt man mitten in Asien und hat ganzjährig warmes Wetter. Kuala Lumpur hat mit den Petronas Towers das höchste Gebäudes der Welt und hat die modernste Infrastrukur in Cyberjaya.

In my opinion this is the ideal metropolis in Asia. Not so strong contrasts like in Bangkok, Manila or Jakarta, not so clean like Singapore, not so expensive like Hong Kong or Shanghai and in opposite to Taipei and Peking they speak English. The traffic is already sometimes awesome and for driving in the city you need a training time. But this city is located in middle of southeast Asia and has all the year warm weather. Kuala Lumpur is the location with the highest building in the world with the Petronas Towers and has the moderns infrastructure in Cyberjaya.

Meine Lieblingsstadt in Asien, durch die Grösse übersehbar und durch die vielen geschäftlichen Besuche für mich ganz familiär. Die Stadt wurde durch Portugiesen gegründet und auch die Holländer haben Ihren Stempel hinterlassen, wie man an vielen Gebäuden im Zentrum sieht. Geschichtlich bedeutend da hier die Unabhängigkeit von Malaysia ausgerufen wurde. Die vielen einheimischen Kneipen und Restaurants, mein Lieblingsessen Chicken Reis und viele Freunde machen die Stadt für mich immer eine Reise wert. Und immer lerne ich etwas neues.

My favorite city in Asia, because the size is still acceptable and through my many business visits for me very familiar. The city was founded by Portuguese and also the Dutch left their footsteps in the city, as could be seen on many buildings in the town. Historically outstanding because here was called out the independence of Malaysia. The many local pubs, restaurants and food stalls, my favorite food chicken rice and many friends make the city all times worth for a trip to me. And on each trip I find and learn any new things.

Kleine Insel an der Ostküste südlich von Tioman. Jedes Wochenende ist Party angesagt. Freitag Nacht kommen Busse von Singapore und über Nacht wird man auf die Insel gebracht. Nach ein paar weiteren Stunden Schlaf geht es zum Tauchen. Nach 4 Tauchgängen steigt am Abend die Party, die wie bei Chinesen üblich nicht allzu lang aber heftig ist. Am morgen geht es dann weiter mit 2 Tauchgängen, bevor die Rückreise angetreten wird. Die Insel ist bekannt für gute Sichtweiten, die ich nicht hatte. Auserdem soll es Walhaie geben.

A small island south of Tioman on the east coats. Every weekend is party time. Friday night arrives the buses from Singapore and over night they will be transferred to the island. After a some more hours of sleep it is dive time. After four dives in the evening starts the party, as usual with Chinese not very long but vehement. Next morning continuous with another two dives before the return journey starts. the island is known for a good visibility, which I did not have. Also in the waters are frequently seen whale sharks.

Die Duty Free Insel ist viel promoted, bietet aber nichts. Ein paar nette Strände und warmes Wasser. Ich war immer auf Pulau Payar, die Sicht war bescheiden die Tauchzeit noch mehr. Es gab richtig tropische Temperaturen und grosse Fischschwärme. Mit einem grossen Grouper darf jeder Taucher mal knutschen. Wahrscheinlich kann man mit einem richtigen Operator bessere Erfahrungen machen. Die Verkehrsmittel sind auch bescheiden, und nach Mitternacht bekommt man kein Taxi. Also am besten im Hotel bleiben, was auch etwas öde ist.

The duty free island is much promoted, offers nearby nothing. Some nice beaches and warm water, that's all. I was all times on Pulau Payar, the visibility was poor and the dive time much poorer. But the temperatures are tropically and giant fish swarms to see. With a grouper every diver can neck around. I believe with another correct operator are better experiences to be made. The traveling on the island is also poor, after midnight you will not get any taxi. Then you can only stay in the hotel, what is also boring.

Schöne Insel an der Ostküste und bereits einigermassen touristisch erschlossen. Es gibt einen Fährendienst so das man Hotel und Tauchshop vor Ort auswählen kann. Für Anspruchsvolle eignet sich das Perhentian Island Resort direkt am Anlegesteg. Das Tauchen ist klasse, gross und klein ist beides vertreten. Ich kann mich an einige heftige Strömungstauchgänge erinnern. Ich habe einen Sailfisch gesehen und einen Tag nach meiner Abreise haben meine Buddies auch schon Walhai gehabt.

A very nice island on the east coast and also reasonably touristy developed. There are ferry boats to the island and after arrival you can choose the resort and dive shop on the island. For the demanding travelers the Perhentian Island Resort straight behind the jetty is the best choice. Diving is excellent, big and small stuff is available. I can remember some very strong drift dives. In the open water I have seen a sailfish, and once one day after my departure my buddies reported me a whale shark encounter.

Noch schöner wie Perhentian, aber bisher weitgehend nur für einheimischen Tourismus erschlossen. Die Insel wird von Kuala Betut angefahren und da der Bootstransfer nur von den Operators ausgeführt wird muss man die Anlage vorab buchen. Die Resorts sind einfach angelegt, für Verwöhnte gibt es das 4* Berjaya und alle haben schöne Sandstrände. Die Insel ist mit eines der besten Schnorchelreviere mit Haien bis in das Flachwasser. Viele Hart und Weichkorallen, tropische Fische, Turtles und einmal hatte ich 2 Grauhaie vor der Flinte.

This island is nicer then Perhentian, but up to my last trip mostly opened only for the local visitors and back papers. The boat departs from Kuala Betut and due the boat transfers are run only by the operators the resort has to be choose in advance. The local resorts have basic arrangements, for the oversea tourist there is a 4* hotel Berjaya and all have nice beaches. The island is one of the best snorkeling areas with baby sharks up the flat water. Many hard and soft corals, tropical fishes, turtles and once I have seen 2 grey sharks.

Die Insel wird per Boot von Kuala Dungun erreicht und bietet das beste Tauchen an der Ostküste. Es gibt Steilwände, Strömung, herrliches Strandtauchen und die Sicht ist durch die Strömung ganz gut. Nur das Prozedere ist nicht so gut: bei grösseren Wellen kommt man nicht hin-und auch nicht zurück. Bier muss man selber mitbringen, da das einzige Ressort von einem Muslim besorgt wird, den Kühlschrank kann man aber nutzen. Angeboten werden Boottauchgänge rund um die Insel. Besonders zu empfehlen sind ungeführte Hausrifftauchgänge.

The island will be reached via boot transfer from Kuala Dungun and offers the best diving on the east cost. There are wall dives, drift dives, excellent beach dives and the visibility is good due the currents. Only the procedure is not good: at higher waves you can't reach the island -and you can't come back. The beer you have to bring by yourself due the resort is operated by a Muslim, but you can use the freezer. There are performed boat dives around the whole island. Excellent are the non guided house reef dives up to the air run out.

Das beste für ein Weekend wenn man gerade in Malaysia ist. Per Flieger von KL oder Singapore ist man in einer Stunde da, und kann nach 2 Stunden im Wasser sein. Der Anflug und Abflug sind abenteuerlich, da die Landebahn auf der einen Seite von einem Berg und auf der anderen von hohen Palmen begrenzt ist. Alternativ kann man die Fähre von Mersing nehmen. Am Weekend gibt es gelegentlich überfallartige Invasionen von tauchenden Singapurianern. Ich bevorzuge das Persona Island Resort mit einem höheren Standard.

The best for a short weekend when somebody is in Malaysia. The plane from KL or Singapore takes about one hour, and after 2 hours you can already be in the water. The start and landing is adventurous due the runaway is limited on one site by a mountain and on the other site by high palm trees. Optional you can take a speed ferry from Mersing, which takes about 2 hours. On the weekends sometimes are invasions from Singaporean divers. I prefer Persona Island Resort with a higher standard against the dive shop affiliated resort due mosquitos.

Kota Kinabalu wird auch KK genannt und liegt in der malaiischen Provinz Sabah auf Borneo. Es ist der Umschlagplatz für den Tourismus in dieser Provinz. Die Stadt gibt nicht viel her und ich habe da immer nur die kurzen Nächte verbracht zum frühen Abflug auf Layang oder Sipadan. Auf dem Rückweg schafft man es immer ohne Übernachtung. Es ist eine typische lokale Chinesenstadt, ein grösseres Hotel und viele kleine Absteigen die ich immer genommen habe. Im Rahman Abdul Nationalpark vor der Stadt gibt es auch Tauchplätze.

Kota Kinabalu is also called KK and is located in the Malay province of Sabah on the northern part of Borneo. It is the transshipment point for the tourism in this province. The city is not very exciting and I spend there only the short nights before my early departures to Layang or Sipadan. On the return way usually no need for a over night stay. It is a typical local Chinese town which accommodate one bigger hotel and a lot of small flophouses which I used on my trips. In the Rahman Abdul National Park should be also some dive spots.

Die Insel wird über einen Privatflieger von Kota Kinnabalu erreicht und ist das Beste was diese Erde zum Tauchen bietet. Alle Tauchgänge werden an den umliegenden Steilwänden durchgeführt. Bei einem Trip habe ich in 48 Stunden ein Walhai, 50 Hammers, mehrere Mantas, unzählige Baracudas und Jacks sowie eine Herde Bumpheads gesehen. Die vielen Whitetips und Turtles langweilen. Das Ressort bietet gehobenen Standard und teilt sich die Insel mit einer Militärbasis und dem Airstrip. Beste Reisezeit für Hammers ist März bis Mai.

This island could be only reached via a private airline from Kota Kinnabalu and is the best what this Earth offer for diving. All dives are performed on the surrounding walls of this atoll. On one trip I have seen within 48 hours one whale shark, 50 hammerheads, some manta rays, uncountable barracudas and jacks as well as a herd bump heads. The many white tips and turtles are boring. The resort offers slight higher standard and divide the island with a military base and the airstrip. The best time for hammerheads is march to may.

Anreise erfolgt über Kota Kinnabalu, dann früh morgens nach Tawau, per Auto weiter nach Semporna und dann mit dem Boot. Die Insel ist durch die Entführungsfälle ein Begriff geworden. Ich persönlich halte die Gegend für sicher, was da passiert ist kann überall passieren. Die Insel ist ein Grossfischparadies, man sieht laufend Haie, Bumpheads und grosse Turtles. Die Sensation sind jedoch die riesigen kreisenden Schwärme von Jackfisch und Baracudas. Das Hausriff ist eines der besten die ich kenne und eignet sich insbesondere für Nachttauchgänge.

Arrival is via Kota Kinnabalu, then early in the morning flying to Tawau, by car further to Semporna and then by boat. The island got famous in the public by the kidnapping case. I personally believe that the area is save, what happened there can everywhere happen. The island is a big fish paradise you can see everywhere sharks, bump heads and big turtles. The sensation are the circling swarms of jackfish and barracudas. The house reef is one of the best which I know and is excellent special for night diving.

Die Inseln wo das Tauchen und die extensiven Fernreisen begannen. Die Inseln im Indischen Ozean sind immer eine Reise wert, einfach ein Juwel auf dieser Erde. Auch ich werde immer wieder dahin fahren, und so wie es sich jetzt eingependelt hat werden wir wohl alle 5 Jahre die Atolle besuchen. Die lokale Politik sondert die Touristeninseln von den einheimischen Inseln ab und so beschränkt sich der Urlaub auf reines Relaxen und Tauchen. Die Atolle werden immer weiter ausgebaut, inzwischen gibt es über 100 Touristeninseln.

The islands where the diving and the extensive oversea traveling started. The islands in the Indian Ocean are still worth for a trip, just a jewel on this earth. I will also travel there again, and as looks the last time we will visit the atolls every 5 years. The local Muslim politic divide the touristy islands from the local inhabited islands and therefore the holiday is limited to pure relaxing and diving. In the atolls are more and more hotel resorts build up, in between there are more then 100 islands prepared for tourism.

Meerufenfushi ist die Insel wo alles begann. Auf meiner Hochzeitsreise habe ich da mit dem Tauchen begonnen und seitdem hat es mich nicht losgelassen. Die Insel war zu diesem Zeitpunkt in 2* klassifiziert und die Eurodivers haben den Tauchshop geführt. Es ist eine der grössten Inseln im Atoll. Keine Schuhe, T-Shirt und mehr braucht man nicht, eben wie man sich das Paradies vorstellt. Wie ich inzwischen vernommen habe, wurde die Insel und Tauchshop unter lokaler Leitung gestellt und ein gehobener Standart eingeführt.

Meerufenfushi is the island where everything started. On my honeymoon trip I started with diving and since this time the fascination did not release me. The island was at this time rated with 2** and the Eurodivers run the dive shop. It is one of the bigger islands in the atoll. No shoes, only a t-shirt and more you don't need, so like I believe it should be in the paradise. As I understood in the last news the island and the dive shop are now under local lead and the island has introduced a higher level standard.

Vilamendhoo war die Insel wo ich den Sprung ins neue Jahrtausend erlebt habe. Trotz gehobenem Standart ist die Insel noch sehr natürlich geblieben ohne gepflasterte Wege. Die Zimmer haben ein offenes Bad, was bei den klimatischen Verhältnissen nicht stört. Bungalows sind gut verteilt und die Gäste sitzen nicht aufeinander. Die Insel befindet sich am Aussenatoll und bietet ein exzellentes Hausriff auf beiden Seiten. Ausserdem Fahrten zum exzellenten Manta Point. Tauchen klasse, Strände klasse, was will man mehr?

Vilamendhoo is the island where I experienced the jump into the new millennium. Despite it has a higher level is the island still very natural without paved ways. The rooms have an open bath, what is not a problem at the existing climatically conditions. Bungalows are well distributed on the island and the guests are not sitting one on the other. The island is located on the outside atoll and offers an excellent house reef on both sides. Additionally the offer rides to the excellent manta point. Diving great, beaches great, what do you like more?

Nach weiteren 5 Jahren sind wir wieder zurückgekommen. Die Inseln erstrahlen immer noch im wunderbar blauen Meer. Die Russen haben inzwischen auch die Malediven entdeckt und so war die Insel ziemlich voll. Das Abendbüffet ist grandios und nicht mit Meeru vor 10 Jahren zu vergleichen. Die Hartkorallen haben sich nach dem El Nino in den oberflächennahen Bereichen noch nicht erholt, an tieferen Stellen sind sie noch gut vertreten. Da das Wetter die meiste Zeit ziemlich stürmisch war, war die Sicht bescheiden.

After another 5 years we came back again. All the islands are still lighting in the wonderful blue sea. The Russian have discovered also the Maldives and the island was heavy occupied by them. The dinner buffet is excellent and could not be compared with Meeru 10 years ago. The hard corals in the surface areas have not yet recovered after the El Nino a couple of years ago, on deeper locations they are still good represented. Due the weather was most time stormy the visibility was not so good at the time of my visit.

Für mich sind unter Berücksichtigung von allen Aspekten die Phillipinen das beste Urlaubsland auf dieser Erde. Äusserst preiswert, spitze Strände und klasse Tauchgebiete, da macht Urlaub Spass. Mit den Einheimischen kommt auch sehr gut klar. Es scheint sich auch herumzusprechen, denn wie ich in den letzten 15 Jahren beobachten konnte werden die Spots häufiger frequentiert und wandeln sich binnen kürzester Zeit. So geschehen in Sabang, Boracay und auch Alona Beach. Reiseführer von Jens Peters ins Gepäck.

Under consideration of all aspects the Philippines are for me the best travel country in this world. Very cheap, excellent sandy beaches and first class dive spots, this is where the holidays are a big fun. With the locals it is very easy to deal with. It looks like other have the same impression, as I have seen in the last years the spots gets more frequently crowded and change within a very short time. This I have experienced in Sabang Beach, Boracay and also Alona Beach. You should take the travel guide from Jens Peters in your luggage.

Die Einwohnerzahl dieser Metropole kann nur geschätzt werden. Im geschäftlichen Makati kann man ganz gut wohnen, die Slums sind aber nicht weit und um diese sollte man einen grossen Bogen machen. Viel Kultur hat Manila nicht, einige unschöne Gebäude aus der Markos Zeit und viele Bauruinen die aus Geldmangel nicht fertig gestellt sind. Auch einen nagelneuen Flughafen der nicht eröffnet wurde. Man schaut sich in Makati um, besucht einige Einkaufscenter und zieht weiter auf die Inseln. Inlandsflüge und Taxis sind sehr günstig.

The population of this metropolis can only be estimated due permanent income without registration. In the business district Makati you can live well, but the slums are not fare away and you should make a big bow around them. Manila has not much culture, some not nice buildings from the Marcos era and many construction ruins which are not finished due money run out. Also a brand new terminal which never opened. You should look around Makati, visit some shopping center and go away to the islands. Domestic flights and taxis are very cheap.

Die Stadt ist berühmt dafür, das hier der der Weltumsegler Magellan sein Leben lassen musste, erschlagen von einem einheimischen Häuptling Lapu Lapu. Heute ist Cebu City eine geschäftige Stadt mitten in den Visayas und Umschlagpunkt vieler Touristen die in Richtung Cebu, Negros oder auch Bohol wollen. Auf der vorgelagerten Insel Mactan, auf der auch der internationale Flughafen liegt, sind viele Touristenressorts der gehobene Klasse entstanden. Es ist eine interessante Variante, von Hongkong nach Cebu zu fliegen und Manila damit umgehen.

The city is famous because the well known world explorer and circumnavigator Magellan lost his live, killed by the local chief Lapu Lapu. Today is Cebu City a busy town in middle of the Visayas and transition point for tourist which like to go to directions Cebu island, Negros and also Bohol. On the connected island Mactan, where also the international airport is located, are many of the tourists resorts of the upper class. It is an interesting variation to fly from Hong Kong to Cebu and bypass Manila with this flight.

Die Insel und die herumliegenden Steilwände sind spitze und eine eigene Reise wert. Bisher bin ich diese Plätze leider immer nur von Panglao angefahren, und das kann ein langer Trip sein. Speziell wenn es regnet und das Boot hat keine Kabine. Ich habe da Mantas gesehen, jedoch waren mir die Hammers die es da auch geben soll nicht vergönnt. Die Korallengärten zum ausschnorcheln nach den tieferen Tauchgängen sind auch absolute spitze und soweit ich das gesehen habe völlig intakt. Es gibt inzwischen mehrere Ressorts auf der Insel.

The island and the surrounding steep walls are excellent and worth its own journey. So far I experienced these places unfortunately only from Panglao, and that can be a long trip. Particularly if it rains and the boat does not have a cabin. I saw Mantas there, however the hammerheads which should be here did not give me the pleasure. The coral garden for the advanced snorkeling after the deep dives is also absolute excellent and so far I saw that completely intact. There are in the meantime several resorts on the island.

Dieses war die erste Insel, die wir in unserem Urlaub wiederbeglückt haben. Und haben das nicht bereut. Auf Anilao Beach findet aber auch schon langsam ein Wandel statt, an der westlichen Strandseite wandeln sich die Ressorts in touristische Burgen. Der östliche Teil ist noch relativ ursprünglich und bietet Relaxen pur. Ein schöner Strand, günstige Kneipen und Getränke und eine Steilwand in Sichtweite, mehr braucht man nicht. Für weitere Ausfahrten bieten sich die top Plätze um Balicasag und Manangan an.

This was my first island which we have visited a second time on our trips. And we have not regretted it. But also on Anilao Beach slowly change the things, on the western side of the sandy beach the resorts changes in tourists castles. The eastern part was on our last visit relative natural and offers relaxing pure. A beautiful sandy beach, cheap bars and drinks and a wall for diving within sight, what do you need more. For longer trips there are the top dive spots around the islands Balicasag and Manangan.

Diese kleine Insel befindet sich on der Nordspitze von Cebu. Die Anreise erfolgt von Cebu City in etwa 4 Stunden über Maya mit dem Taxi und Boot. Die Insel hat einen sehr schönen Strand und man merkt das der Tourismus erst in diesem Jahrtausend begonnen hat. Die Attraktion ist natürlich die in 20min Bootsfahrt entfernte Monad Shoal auf der morgens um 06:00 Uhr getaucht wird um die Fuchshaie zu sehen und nachmittags kommen die Mantas. Aufgrund der demolierten UW Kamera kann ich leider nicht eigene Bilder vorzeigen.

This small island is on the north tip of Cebu located. The trip from Cebu City with a taxi to Maya and further by boat to Malapascua lasts about 4 hours. The island has a very nice beach and you can feel that the tourism started only in this century. The attraction is of course the dive spot Monad Shoal in about 20 min boat drive, where the dive starts in the morning at 06 am to visit the Thresher Sharks and in the afternoon the manta rays. Because of my damaged UW camera unfortunately no own pictures are available.

Moalboal ist ein einheimisches Dorf an der Hauptstrasse. Die Touris versammeln sich am Strand, der vor vielen Jahren von einem Hurrikan davongetragen wurde. Da die Preise hier so günstig sind, ein Bier etwa 35 Cent, fällt es nicht schwer eine Runde auszugeben. Ein Tauchparadies, und wenn ich einen Nacht Award vergeben würde dann hier. Insbesondere Pescador Island ist erste Sahne, mit seinen 60m Steilwänden und super Sicht. Unten kreisen meistens die Grauen Haie, aber da muss man schon auf 50m gehen.

Moalboal is a native village on the surrounding islands main street. The tourists meets at the beach, which was carried off many years ago by a hurricane. Since the prices are here so favorable, a beer about 35 cent, it falls not heavily to spend a round. A diving paradise, and if I would assign a award for night dives then on this place. In particular Pescador Island is very excellent with its 60m steep walls and a super visibility. In the depth cycle often the grey sharks, but to visit them one must go to about 50m depth.

Im Süden von Leyte hat ein Deutscher sein Tauchresort an einem schönen Strand aufgebaut und betaucht die Plätze in der Umgebung. Die Besonderheit sind die Walhaitauchgänge Jan- Mai, ich war leider zu früh da. Mangels andere Möglichkeiten eignet sich das Resort perfekt zum entspannen. Hervorheben möchte ich hier auch das Kinderdorf von Jürgen Schneidt in der Nachbarschaft. Ein Besuch ist immer möglich und Jürgen freut sich das Dorf zu präsentieren. Uns hat Jürgen und dieses Projekt so begeistert, das wir Mitglied in dem Verein wurden.

In the deep south of Leyte a German build up his resort on a nice beach and dives the places in the vicinity. The special attraction is whale shark diving in Jan till Mai, I was unfortunately to early there. Due lack of other possibilities this resort is a perfect spot for relaxing. I like also to highlight here the children village of Juergen Schneidt in the neighborhood. A visit is all times welcome and Juergen is glad to present the village. Juergen and his village inspired us so much, that we acquired membership in his incorporated society.

Anilao ist der nächste Tauchplatz zu Manila und kann binnen drei Stunden mit Auto erreicht werden. Zuerst geht es über den Highway, später über eine Schotterstrasse, die bei starkem Regen unpassierbar wird. Für die Schotterstrasse ist bei Regengefahr ein Allradantrieb empfehlenswert. Je weiter man südlich fährt, umso besser werden die Tauchplätze. Jedes Weekend brechen Manilas Expats und Einheimische ein und dann kann es in den kleinen Anlagen eng werden. Reservierung ist darum unbedingt empfehlenswert.

Anilao is the next dive spot to Manila and can be achieved within a three hours drive by car. At first over the highway, later via a crushed stone route which becomes with strong rain impassable. For the crushed stone route an all-wheel drive is recommendable with rain danger. The further one drives south, the better becomes the diving places. Each Weekend Manila Expats and native ones breaks in and then it can become close in the small resorts. Reservation is therefore absolute recommended.

Zuerst nur zur Überbrückung gedacht erwies sich Fortune Island als Glücksgriff. Wir waren die ersten Gäste dort nach Neueröffnung, nachdem Sie zuvor Marcos Privatinsel war. Ist ein klasse Spot, wenn da nicht die Dynamit-Fischer wären. Es ballert da nur so, bei jedem TG mindestens 2-3 mal. Dafür habe ich bei meinen wenigen TG mehrmals Mantas gesehen. Bei einem Nacht TG ist einer mehrmals nur cm über meinen Kopf gedonnert, ich glaube der hat mich gar nicht gesehen. Am nächsten Morgen ist er leider in einer Bratpfanne gelandet.

At first the Fortune island was planed to bridge some days, later we found it was a lucky turn. We was the first guests on the island after opening, due it was previously Marcos private island. It is an excellent spot, when the dynamite fishing would not be existing. On every dive we heard 2-3 times the bombing. I have also seen on my couple of dives more then once manta rays. On a night dive one of them passed just cm over my head, I thing he did not see me. On the next morning unfortunately he was catched and finished in a local fry pan.

Subic kann man in einer zweistündigen Autofahrt von Manila erreichen. Bekannt ist Subic durch die grossen japanischen Wracks die direkt in der Bay liegen. Nachdem da keine Strömungen sind ist die Sicht natürlich ganz bescheiden, so um die 5m. Weiter draussen soll es noch Korallenplätze zum Tauchen geben, die sollen bessere Sicht haben. Ich habe keinen Strand gesehen und die Square dives mit Anfängern waren extrem kurz, das war wirklich Schrott. Na ja, im Wasser gewesen und das nächste Mal besser organisieren.

You can reach Subic in a two hour drive by car from Manila. Well known is Subic by the large Japanese wrecks which lies direct in the Bay. Because lack of currents the visibility is naturally very poor, so about lousy 5m. More outside of the bay there are other spots with corals slopes, which should have better visibility. I have not seen any beach in this area and the square dives with absolute beginners was extremely short, that was really scrap. Well, I have been in the water and next time I should better manage such a trip.

Dakak liegt auf Mindanao und kann per Flieger von Manila oder Speedboot von Cebu City oder Doumagetti erreicht werden, ist jedoch nach meinen Informationen inzwischen geschlossen. Zu viele haben wohl die Nähe zu Jolo gefürchtet. Sollte vorab gebucht werden, da Vorort keine Alternativen vorhanden sind. Das Ressort und die Tauchplätze sind gut, der Strand ist klasse. Aber Achtung: wie bereits ein Münchner Tech-Taucher verspüren musste, sind die Muränen hier bissig - vermutlich weil Techman wie im TV gesehen die Viecher streicheln wollte.

Dakak lies on Mindanao and can be achieved by plane from Manila or speed boat from Cebu or Doumagetti, is however after my latest information closed. Too many were afraid probably due the proximity to Jolo. Should be booked in advance, since locally no alternatives are present. The resort and the diving spots are good, the beach is excellent. But take care, as a Munich Tec diver had to experience, the Murray eels are biting here - probably because the Techman wanted to stroke them as seen somewhere in the television.

Tauchen und der Tourismus konzentrieren sich an den Stränden wie Sabang Beach. In 1987 meine erste Übersee Erfahrung, damals noch ein verschlafenes Dorf, ist heute voller Touristenrummel geboten mit Bars und Nightlive. Einen Strand sollte man in Sabang nicht erwarten. Da die Tauchbasis und Guide partout keine TG über 45 min machen wollten, konnte ich mich total frustriert nur mit meiner Nitrox Ausbildung beschäftigen. Hinfahren würde ich sofort wieder, aber nie wieder ins Coco Beach und zu den angeschlossenen Philippine Divers.

Dimakya liegt nördlich von Coron und ist eine sehr schöne Insel. Buchen muss man in Manila und dann fliegt man nach Coron. Mit einem Jeepney geht es quer durch Coron, was nach einem Regen mühsam sein kann. Die einzige Anlage auf der Insel ist der Club Paradise, ausgestattet mit für den Preis zu einfachen Hütten. Direkt vor den Bungalows hat man einen wunderbaren Sandstrand. Der Diveshop wird von einem klasse deutschen Tauchinstructor geführt. Getaucht wird nicht allzu tief an flachen Korallenhängen die sehr gut erhalten sind.

Dimakya lies north of Coron and is a very beautiful island. Booking must be done in Manila and then you have to fly to Coron. With a Jeepney you cross through Coron, what after a rain can be adventurous. The only resort on the island is the Club Paradise, equipped with to simple huts for the required price. Directly in front of the bungalows is a marvelous sandy beach. The dive shop is led by an excellent German diving instructor. The diving is performed not very deep on flat coral slopes which are in excellent conditions.

Die vielleicht berühmteste Touristeninsel auf den Philippinen die sich mit einem der Top 10 Strände der Welt rühmt. Die Infrastrukur ist sehr gut ausgebaut, am benachbarten Festland ist eine Landebahn vorhanden. Ich habe es tatsächlich geschafft, genau eine Stunde nach der Landung im Wasser zu sein. An dem langem Strand sind viele Ressorts angesiedelt und Unmengen von Restaurants und Pubs buhlen um Kundschaft. Getaucht wird an Korallenhängen oder an der Wand Yapak, die jedoch erst bei 30m beginnt.

Als Umschlagplatz einmal für die asiatische Region und auch für Flüge nach Australien ist Singapur den Reisenden wohlbekannt. Am Hafen sind die besten Restaurants, einkaufen kann man am besten in der Orchard Road, einige Tauchshops sind im Keller des Lucky Plaza Centers. Tauchen ist vor einigen Inseln möglich.

Eine der schönsten Städte auf diesem Planet, wenn es nur nicht diese schreckliche Reglementierung geben würde. Alles ist geregelt, und darüber machen sich viele lustig: sie wird 'fine City' genannt in Anspielung an die Doppelbedeutung dieses Wortes, schön oder Strafe. Das Einkaufen das vor Jahren so populär da war kann man inzwischen vergessen, die deutschen Internetshops bieten Electronic billiger an. Als Tauchgebiet unbekannt, jedoch bietet klasse Spots. Die beiden vorgelagerten Inseln im Südosten können sich vom Tauchen durchaus mit guten Zielen messen. Tauchen ist ganz populär in Taiwan, speziell an der Ostküste kann man praktisch überall ins Wasser gehen. Die Westküste ist zum Tauchen nicht geeignet. Reisen wird wie in China durch die Sprachprobleme stark behindert. Wer das nicht scheut, findet eine nette Umgebung und wenn man Glück hat auch ganz guten Anschluss an die Einheimischen.

As diving area unknown, however offers excellent spots. The two offshore islands in the southeast can quite measure with good diving spots elsewhere. Diving is absolute popular in Taiwan, special at the east coast you can everywhere jump into the water. The west coast is not suitable for diving. Die Hauptstadt im Norden von Taiwan ist eine Mischung aus chinesischer Kultur und einer westlichen Metropole. Ich habe in Taipei mehr chinesische Kultur gesehen als in ganz China. Sehr schöne Bauten und Tempel sind überall fotogen angesiedelt. Mit dem Taxi und einer auf chinesisch geschriebener Adresse kam ich nicht ans Ziel und musste mich abholen lassen. Auf der Strasse jemanden englischsprachigen zu finden ist fast unmöglich. Solange man geführt wird ist es akzeptabel, aber Alleingänge sollte man vermeiden.

The capitol in the north of Taiwan is a mixture from Chinese culture and a western metropolis. I saw more Chinese culture and buildings in Taipei than in the complete China. Very beautiful buildings and temple are everywhere picturesque located. With the taxi and one in Chinese written address I did not reach the destination and had to ask for a pick up. To find on the road someone English speaking is nearby impossible. As long as you are led it is acceptable, but you should avoid to go around by yourself.

Keelung ist eine Kleinstadt etwa eine Autostunde nördlich von Taipei. Wird von den Einheimischen aus Taipei als Tagestrip angefahren und ist sicher keine richtige Tauchdestination. Jedoch wer in Taipei zu tun hat für den ist es ein müheloser Sonntagsausflug mit Tauchgelegenheit. Zu sehen gibt es nicht allzu viel, aber die Tauchzeiten waren ordentlich. Die Organisation durch den lokalen Tauchklub war ausgezeichnet und es gab auch einige englisch sprachige Taucher womit das grösste Problem beseitigt war.

Keelung is a smaller village about one hour by car north of Taipei. This is the training area of the Taipei scuba diving clubs and could be reached by daytrips and is for sure not a real diving destination. However who has to work in Taipei for him it is an easy Sunday trip with diving opportunity. You will not see so much, but the dive times was acceptable. The organization by the local diving club was excellent and there was also some English speaking divers and with them the largest problem was already eliminated.

Kenting ist das Urlaubsgebiet der einheimischen Bevölkerung. Einige grosse Hotels und auch kleinere Pensionen sind an der Küste verteilt und in Kenting findet man auch Restaurants und Pubs. Die Tauchshops sind meistens als Füllstationen für die einheimischen Taucher ausgelegt, geführte Tauchgänge sind relativ teuer. Die Attraktion hier ist das Tauchen im warmen Abwasser eines Kernkraftwerks. Ist an der Südküste aber der beste Tauchplatz und im Umkreis von etwa hundert Metern gibt es Weichkorallen und Fische wie in den Tropen.

Kenting is the vacation area of the local population. Some large hotels and also smaller pensions are distributed on the coast line and in Kenting are also restaurants and pubs. Die kleine Insel ist per Flugzeug oder Fähre von Taitung erreichbar. Hotels, Pensionen sowie einheimische touristische Infrastruktur ist vorhanden. Ist der Topplatz zum Tauchen in Taiwan mit sehr guten Sichtweiten. Im Westen gibt es Korallen und weisse Sandbänke, jedoch äusserst mühsamer Ein- und Ausstieg über die Riffkante. Im Norden ist der Einstieg einfach, Felshänge ohne jegliche Fische, hier habe ich meine ersten Hammerhaie gesehen. Im Februar bei etwas kühlerem Wasser von 20grad soll es hier grosse Schulen von Hammers geben.

In the west are corals and white sand banks, however extremely dangerous enter and outgoing over the reef edge. In the north the entrance is simple, rock slopes without less fish, here I had my first encounter with hammerhead sharks. In February with somewhat cooler water of about 20dgrs there was already seen here large schools of hammerheads.

Von den asiatischen Ländern ist Thailand wohl am meisten touristisch, insbesondere Phuket und Ko Samui. Ko Tao ist ganz nett, aber die Sicht ist wie im ganzen Golf nicht gerade berauschend. Die besten Tauchplätze Thailands sind noch an der Westküste, und je weiter vom Festland desto besser wird es. Die Thailänder haben das freundlichste Lächeln und die beste Küche Asiens. Gleichzeitig sind sie menschlich manchmal schwer zu verstehen, was ich auf den Einfluss des Buddhismus zurückführe.

Thailand is from all the Asian countries the most touristy, especially around Phuket and Ko Samui. Koh Tao is also not bad for diving, but the visibility is as usual in the golf area not very good. The best dive spots are on the west coast, and as farer from the mainland you will go as better the visibility will get. The Thai people has the most friendliest smiling and the best food through all Asia. At the same time they are human vice difficult to understand, what I attribute to the influence of the Buddhism religion.

Die millionenschwere Stadt hat viele Gesichter. Arm und Reich wohnen direkt nebeneinander, Paläste und andere sehenswerte Tempel sind überall in der Stadt verteilt, das Nachtleben ist sehr berühmt und die Märkte sind auch interessant. Eine Fahrt auf den Flussarmen ist unbedingt zu empfehlen, dagegen sollte man versuchen den Verkehr zu meiden. Der Nachtmarkt im Zentrum sollte man sich nicht entgehen lassen. Und auf jeden Fall genügend Zeit für die Fahrt zum Flughafen einplanen, um nicht vom Highway aus dem Flieger zu winken.

The city with a population of millions has many faces. Poor and rich lives just door on door, palace's and other well worth seeing temple are everywhere around the city, the nightlife is very famous and the markets are interesting too. A boat trip on the river arms is absolute recommend at, but you should try to avoid the traffic where possible. The night market in the city center should every visitor in Bangkok know. And take enough time on the drive to the airport, to avoid to wave to your plane from the car on the highway.

Auf Koh Lanta südlich von Phuket war ich selbst noch nicht, aber per Liveaboard auf den vorgelagerten Felsgruppen Hin Muang und Hin Daeng, Felsen die bei Ebbe nur 2-3 Meter aus dem Wasser herausragen. Bei Flut sind sie fast untergetaucht. Diese Tauchplätze sind wirklich exzellent. Es gibt Leopardhaie, Mantas und Grauhaie, sowie für die Tauchanfänger die es bei superstarker Strömung nicht bis zum Grund schafften auch Walhaie. Ich war leider kein Anfänger. Inzwischen werden von Koh Lanta auch Tagestrips angeboten.

On Koh Lanta south of Phuket I was not yet, but via live aboard on the off shore islands Hin Muang and Hing Daeng, rocks which look out of the water only 2-3 m. With high tide they submerged nearly. These diving places are really excellent. There are leopard sharks, mantas and grey sharks, as well as for the diving beginners also whale sharks when they can't reach the bottom against the strong current. I was unfortunately not a beginner. In the meantime from Koh Lanta are also day trips offered.

Phi Phi ist in 2-3 Stunden per Fähre von Phuket zu erreichen und ist ein schöner Platz, der jedoch immer touristischer wird. Insbesondere der Strand ist exzellent. Die Maya Bay war vor dem Filmarbeiten dort eines den schönsten und fotogensten Plätze die man sich vorstellen kann. Getaucht wir überwiegend um die unbewohnte Insel mit der Maya Bay, Hänge und Corallblöcke mit Sandflächen dazwischen. Leopardhaie sind an vielen Plätzen anzutreffen. Das Desaster der Flutwelle mus verheerende Schäden angerichtet haben.

Phi Phi can be attained in approx. 2-3 hours by ferry from Phuket and is a nice place, which becomes even more touristy. In particular the beach is excellent. The Maya Bay was before the film work one of the most beautiful and picturesque places which I have ever seen. Diving will be done predominantly around the uninhabited island with the Maya Bay, mostly slopes and coral blocks with sandy areas between them. Leopard sharks are found at many places. The disaster of the earth quake wave have created devastating damage on the island.

Der Touristenspot in Thailand. Die ganze Insel besteht nur aus Tourismus mit Hotelanlagen ohne Ende. Das Nachtleben ist wohl eines der besten in ganz Asien. Die Tagesausflüge sind ganz gut, insbesondere sind das Anemonen Reef mit meinen ersten Walhai und auch das unberechenbare Raja Noi mit seinem beisswütigen Fischen und kreuz und quer Strömungen hervorzuheben. Ich habe da Mantas, Leopardenhaie, Turtles und sehr schöne Korallen gesehen. Das Wrack des King Cruiser ist auch angenehm zu betauchen.

The tourist spot in Thailand. The whole island consists only of tourism with hotels without end. The night life is probably one of the best in completely Asia. The daily dive trips are quite good, especially the Anemone Reef with my first unbelievable whale shark encounter and also the incalculable Raja Noi with its biting fishes and criss cross currents are to be emphasized. I saw mantas, leopard sharks, turtles and very beautiful coral gardens there. The wreck of the King Cruiser is also a pleasure to be dived.

Als bekannteste Insel im Golf ist hier der Tourismus mit all seinen Begleiterscheinungen vorhanden. Die Infrastruktur ist ganz gut ausgebaut und per Kleinflieger von Bangkok kommt man schnell an. Ein feste Buchung für den Flug ist absolute empfehlenswert um längere Standby Zeiten zu vermeiden. Nur beim Tauchen happert es gewaltig, Ruddeltauchen mit etwa 150 Tauchern von 3 Booten auf einem Tauchplatz und dann noch mit einem Ami als Buddy getaucht. Das Resultat kann man bei den Tauchzeiten ablesen.

As the most well-known island in the gulf the tourism with all its accompaniments is present. The infrastructure is developed well and by the small planes from Bangkok you arrive fast on the island. A confirmed reservation for the flight is essential to avoid longer waiting times on the airport. Only the diving is absolute badly, dive trips to one spot with approximately 150 divers on 3 boats and to top this I got an US diver as buddy, who run out of air after 30 min dive time. The result could be seen on my dive times.

Der beste Tauchplatz in Thailand. Die Inselgruppe befindet sich etwa 6 Bootsstunden von Phuket und wurde nur per Liveaboard angefahren. Auf einer Insel gibt es auch eine Unterkunft, die jedoch nicht benutzt werden sollte. Der Reihenbungalow hat 4er Pritschen, oben offen und ein Blechdach auf dem die Kokosnüsse in der Nacht einen Heidenlärm verursachen. Seit kurzem werden auch Tagestrips vom Festland angeboten, die aber aufgrund der langen Fahrzeit nicht so toll sein sollen. Die Tauchgründe sind abwechslungsreich mit viel Strömung.

The best diving spot in Thailand. The group of islands is about 6 hours by boat from Phuket and was reached only by live boards. On one island there is also an accommodation, which should not be used however. The long bungalow has 4 plank beds, is above open and a have a metal roof on which the falling coconuts in the night create an unbelievable noise. Der bekannteste Platz in der Gegend ist der Richelieu Rock, in Tauchkreisen als Walhai Magnet weltweit berühmt. Angefahren werden sie nur per Liveaboard von Phuket. Die Zahl der Boote und damit Taucher steigt laufend, so das schon ein Gedränge wie in Ägypten entsteht. Riesige Felsbrocken die von über 20m bis nahe an die Wasseroberfläche reichen, kennzeichnen die Tauchplätze. Klasse Platz mit sehr guten Sichtweiten, aber die Walhaie liessen mich bei meinem Besuch im Stich. Weitere nette Plätze sind Koh Bon und Koh Tachai.

The well-known place in the area is Richelieu Rock, which is known in the diving community as a whale shark magnet. They could be reached only by live aboard from Phuket. The number of boats and thus divers rise constantly, thus that a crowding like in Egypt is already developed. Enormous rocks with came from more then 20m depth and reach up to the surface are the mark of this dive spot. Excellent spot with very good visibility, but the whale sharks did not appear when I was there. Further nice places are Koh Bon and Koh Tachai.

Koh Tao liegt im flachen Golf von Siam und kämpft damit mit der schlechten UW Sicht aufgrund mangelnder Strömungen. Ist aber wohl der beste Platz im ganzen Golf und zieht viele Taucher an. Mir hat die direkt benachbarte 3-er Insel Koh Nan Yuang am besten gefallen, insbesondere die Sandbrücke zwischen den Inseln die bei Flut etwas unter Wasser gerät ist sehr fotogen. Das Ressort auf der Insel ist ganz gut, ausser das die Bedienungen sehr schwerfällig reagierten. Für Nachttauchgänge kann man direkt von der Basis starten.

Koh Tao is located in the flat gulf of Siam and fights thereby with the bad visibility due the lack of currents. The best place however in the whole gulf and attracts many divers. For me the directly neighboring triple island Koh Nan Yuang made the best impression, in particular the sandy bridge between the islands which could be overfloded at tide is very picturesque. The resort on the island is good, except the waitresses was some times very slow. For night diving you can start directly from the basis.

Krabbi ist die Provinzhauptstadt der Region und hat neulich einen Flughafen eröffnet. Damit sind Direktflüge von Singapore möglich und machen nach Phuket auch den Festlandbereich und Koh Lanta leichter erreichbar. Die Infrastruktur ist gut, nicht so überlaufen wie Phi Phi. Die küstennahen Tauchplätze, auf die ich diesen Spot begrenze, sind mässig, viele Korallen aller Art. Die Ausfahrten dahin finden mit dem Longtailboot statt, mit den grösseren Tauchbooten werden als Tagestrip Tauchplätze von Phi Phi und auch Phuket angesteuert.

Krabbi is the province capitol of the region and an airport recently opened there. Thus direct flights from Singapore are possible and make after Phuket also the mainland and Koh Lanta more easily reachable. The infrastructure is good, the area is not so overcrowded like Phi Phi. The offshore dive spots, to which I limit this location, are moderately, many corals of kinds. The dive trips are performed with the long tail boat, with the bigger vessels are daytrips made to spots like Phi Phi and also Phuket.

Pattaya ist nur knapp über 2 Autostunden von Bangkok entfernt, ideal für ein Weekend, wenn ein wenig Zeit zur Verfügung steht. Die ganze Gegend wimmelt nur so von Hotels, Restaurants und Bars. Nachdem Tauchen mein Ziel war habe ich die anderen Attraktionen nicht beachtet und bin jeden Morgen mit den deutschen Paradise Divers ausgefahren. An den vorgelagerten Inseln ist langes Tauchen in flachen Gewässer möglich. Zum Wracktauchen kann man weiter südlich ebenfalls kommen, da aber starke Strömungen beachten.

Pattaya is just a bit more then 2 car drive hours from Bangkok, ideal for a short weekend when only little time is available. The whole area is over filled with hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars. Because my goal was scuba diving I ignored the other attractions and started every morning with the German originated Paradise Divers to the sea. On the off shore islands are long dives in the flat waters possible. For wrack diving more in the south are some dive spots, but there you have to take care about the strong currents.

Bis zu meiner ersten Reise hatte ich keine richtige Vorstellung von diesem Lande. Ich wurde angenehm überrascht. Wenn man von der leidlichen Prozedur mit dem Visa absieht, ist das Land unbedingt die Reise wert. Laute Städte mit guten Möglichkeiten zum einkaufen, sehr schöne Strände in den Badeorten und selbst einsame Inseln sind vorhanden. Das Land hat den Kommunismus überwunden und öffnet sich dem Tourismus. Sehr günstige lokale Preise und gute Infrastruktur ermöglichen Individualreisen so richtig nach meinem Geschmack.

Up to my first trip I had not a very clear picture about this country and what expect me. I got pleasurable surprised. When you forget the sufferable procedure with the visa, the country is absolute worth for a visit. Noisy cities with good possibilities for shopping, very nice beaches on the coast line and also lonely islands are existing. The country slowly overcome the communism and opens now for the western tourism. Inexpensive local prices and a good infrastructure for traveling allows individual trips as I like it.

Ho Chi Minh City ist eine typische asiatische Grossstadt, sehr heiss und schwüll. Wir waren in der Regenzeit da und hatten jeden Nachmittag um 3 Uhr die Dusche. Dann am besten in eine Kneipe setzen und abwarten. Das Zentrum kann man gut zu Fuss erkunden und in andere Viertel kann man die günstigen Taxis benutzen. Die Gebäude in der Stadt sind stark geprägt vom der französischen Besetzung, wie auch einige der Nobelhotels zeigen. Man sollte wegen der Kriminalität aufpassen, wir hatten aber nie das Gefühl bedroht zu werden.

Ho Chi Minh City is a typical Asian metropolis, very hot and humid. We was there within the rainy season and had every afternoon at 3 pm the shower. Then at the best sit down in a coffee shop and wait. The center could be easily discovered on foot and in the other districts like Chinatown you can use the cheap taxis. The buildings in the city are strongly dominated by the French occupation, what some of the classy hotels shows. There is a recommendation to care about the criminality, but we never had the feeling to be threatened.

Ein voll erschlossener Touristenort mit inzwischen über 100 Hotels und vielen Neonlichtreklamen. Ein schöner Sandstrand zieht sich an der ganzen Stadt entlang, bevölkert mit vielen Einheimischen die einem ständig etwas andrehen wollen. Viele Kneipen bieten frischen Fisch an und die Cocktails hinterher in der Bar sind für westliche Verhältnisse sehr günstig. Zum Tauchen fahren alle Tauchshops an die vorgelagerten Inseln, etwa eine Stunde Anfahrt. Die Wassertemperatur schwankte von 20 - 30 grd abhängig von Tiefe.

This is a full available tourist location with more then 100 hotels and a lot of neon illumination advertisement. A nice sandy beach is stretched along the whole city line, populated with many locals which permanent try to sell something. Many restaurants offer fresh seafood and the cocktails later on in the bar are cheap for western circumstances. For the dive trips all shops ship to the offshore islands, round about 1 hour drive. The water temperature balance between 20 - 30 dgrs, relating on the water depth.

Auf Whale Island ist ein wunderschönes Resort mit tropischem Ambiente betrieben von Franzosen. Die richtige Abwechslung nach dem Rummel in den Städte. Die Hütten sind mit Vorhängeschlössern ausgestattet und sehr einfach gehalten. Dafür gibt es excellentes Essen, einen schönen Strand und ein gutes Hausriff mit einigen Raritäten. Die Tauchplätze werden mit einem Boot angefahren und gegen Mittag ist man wieder nach 2 TG zurück und kann noch am Strand relaxen oder einen Hausriffbesuch machen. Sehr farbige Sonnenuntergänge.

On Whale Island is a very nice resort with a tropical ambient run by a Frenchman. The right alternation after the hype in the cities. The cottages are equipped with padlocks and very simply upheld. But the food is there excellent, the sandy beach very nice and a great house reef complete it with some very rare fishes. The dive spots are approached by a boat and at noontime you are back after two dives and can relax on the beach or visit the house reef with the seahorses. In the evening are very colored sundowners.
